Yoop Island and Windesi Waters
Talking about the wealth of natural resources, there is Teluk Cendrawasih National Park Area which is an area of Teluk Wondama Regency which is a gorgeous tourist destination. There are many activities you can do in this area. Starting from enjoying the beauty of the islands with their beaches, the charm of the amazing underwater beauty, observing animals (such as whales, dolphins, birds and many others), fishing and enjoying hot springs.
The islands that have these tourism objects, especially those included in the Teluk Wondama Regency area, include; the islands of Rumberpon, Nukusa, Nusrowi, Mioswar, Roon, Yoop, Anggrameos and Windesi waters. Indeed, there are quite a number of islands owned by Teluk Wondama Regency. There are also waterfalls and natural hot springs that blend with sea water, such as those on Mioswaar Island. Especially in the waters of Windesi and Yoop Island, visitors can see or swim with whales.
Visitors can observe directly the whales and dolphins that often appear in this area. In Yoop Island and the Windesi waters area is a playground for one of the world's largest animals: the spotted whale shark or Rhincodon typus. If anywhere else in the world divers consider themselves lucky to meet one or several, here they come in great numbers and divers can swim with them unscathed other than to be careful not to get hit by any of their powerful fins.
Whalesharks are migratory animals, and known to grow to 18 meters or more. Biologists tell us that they are an ancient species that dates back about 60 million years, and are usually found in the open ocean. They have a lifespan of 70 years. A whaleshark that has 7 meters size can weight up to 22 tons. Extraordinarily large animals because they live only on plankton, egg clouds and small fish, which in Indonesia are called "anchovy".
Apart from the whaleshark, four species of sea turtles inhabit these waters, they are the hawksbill turtle, the common green turtle, the Pacific ridley turtle and the leatherback turtle. Here are also found dugongs, coconut crabs, dolphins and sharks.
There is one tip for those of you who want to visit destinations in Teluk Cenderawasih National Park area. You can schedule your visit in the best time to visit, between May and October. You can also do snorkeling, diving, marine tourism, and animal observation on Nusrowi Island and Roon Island. There are also places for bird watching, deer breeding, and marine tourism on Rumberpon Island.
How to get there?
For those of you who depart from outside Papua island, you can use an airline from your city to Biak. In addition, there are also airlines from Jayapura that serve flights to Biak. Arriving in Biak, you can use the airline to Nabire or Manokwari. The land route is only available starting from Manokwari. Here you will travel overland for 3 hours to Ransinki, then continue by motor boat for 2.5 hours.
