Traditional House

There are various traditional houses in Central Papua based on the culture and geography of each region, for example, the Dani tribe's Honai in Puncak Jaya, the Mee tribe's Emawa house in Paniai, Deiyai, and Dogiyai, and the Kamoro tribe's Carapao house in Mimika. The Mee tribe lives in the highlands on the shores of Lakes Paniai, Tigi, and Tage. The traditional house of the Mee tribe is quite simple, consisting of wooden walls with a roof made of thatch leaves or reeds.

The Emawa house is composed of three parts, including the attic at the top for storing arrows, firewood, and other attributes, the middle room for a bed and fire pit, and under the house at the bottom part because this traditional house is a stilts house because it adjusts to its geography which experienced the ups and downs of lakes and rivers. The Mee tribe also divides traditional houses into several types; they are the Jame Owaa house for men, Kegita Owaa for women, and Uguwo Owaa for families.
