Koteka

Koteka is a traditional male genital covering worn by several inland tribes in the mountains of Central Papua, such as the Amungme tribe, Damal tribe, Mee tribe, Moni tribe, Wano tribe, etc. Koteka is made from a long pumpkin (Lagenaria siceraria) whose contents are removed and burned. Each tribe and perhaps village has a different shape of Koteka. Gradually, the use of Koteka in everyday life is decreasing, but still used for celebration or tourism purposes. Koteka is listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
