Framu Lake

The lake is beautiful and enchanting, the water is as clear as a mirror, it is Framu Lake. Framu Lake is located in West Papua, precisely in Ayamaru. Ayamaru often called as the "capital" of Papua. Papuans who are educated and have achieved brilliant careers are from this region. This lake attracts a lot of attention, because in the middle of dense forest and far from residential areas there is a lake as beautiful as that. From the main road to Lake Framu you have to walk for about 10 to 15 minutes through a small forest in West Papua which is dominated by shrubs. Among the thickets of shrubs, the lake, which is dominated by turquoise, is exist.

This beautiful lake is so clean because indigenous Papuans, aka local residents, take care of it. Although it is incredibly beautiful, be careful if you want to swim in this lake. The water is calm a sign that this lake is quite deep. It is said that the depth of this lake can reach 6 meters. However, you can swim on the edge of the lake or just throw your feet and walk on the rocks that clearly visible from the edge of the lake.

Your eyes will be spoiled by the scenery around Lake Framu. Even though you are not satisfied looking at nature, try once to close your eyes and feel the breeze blowing gently like caressing your hair and face. The warm sunshine and the small ripples of the lake water can be a natural tranquility therapy and a powerful way to get rid of fatigue. Really can't be expressed in beautiful words.

The road to Lake Framu is quite difficult because not all of the routes are smooth paved roads. Almost all of the roads are small and bumpy and rocky roads. The road conditions like this make Lake Framu not often touched by visitors.

There are 8 villages around Lake Framu: Segior, Woman, Mefkajem, Kartapura, Mapura, Yukase, Karetubun and Jitmau villages. However, these villages are far apart. So get ready for not finding a single person if you head to Lake Framu. They are all residents around the lake who still believe in the existence of their ancestors, protect the lake, and do not cut down trees around the lake. The people believe that cutting down trees is similar to shaving their ancestors' hair.

If you remember the shape of Papua island, there is a part that looks like a bird's head, Lake Framu is geographically located in the middle of the bird's head. Its presence was neither very high nor low. But, try to pay attention to the natural surroundings, because this special lake is surrounded by mountains around it.

How to get there?
Ayamaru City itself is 260 km from the west of Sorong City, precisely located in Maybrat Regency. The journey from Sorong City to Ayamaru is usually taken by public transportation, about 4-5 hours away.
