Dance

Some famous dances from South Papua are the Seka Dance, the Balengan Dance (also called the Social Dance), and the Pangkur Sagu Dance. The Seka Dance is a traditional dance from the Timika, Kaimana, and Fakfak regions. It symbolizes gratitude for a bountiful harvest. It is often performed at traditional ceremonies, such as weddings. The Balengan Dance is a popular dance among the coastal communities of Nabire. The Pangkur Sagu Dance is a dance that shows how the Papuan people make a living by processing sago.

The dances of South Papua are often similar to those of Central Papua and Papua Pegunungan because they were once all part of the same region. However, some dances are native to South Papua because they come from districts in that province.
