Sembra River


In Papua, there is a river near to Raja Ampat which used as a tourist spot because of its beauty. This river is named Sungai Sembra, located in Srer Village, Seremuk District, South Sorong Regency, Papua, Indonesia. South Sorong indeed consists of many rivers that flow along its territory, ranging from small, medium, to the most extensive and large. Uniquely, the rivers in the South Sorong region have so clear and bluish water flows, very different compared to rivers on other Indonesian islands.

Sembra River comes from a combination of two words, namely "Sem" which means water and "Bra" which means blue, when combined, the meaning of Sembra is blue water. The meaning of this word fits perfectly with what is in this river, if you live in other areas, of course you will be amazed when you visit this island. This is because rivers in other areas such as Java Island are identical with brownish and cloudy water colors, but this river in eastern Indonesia actually has clear and bluish water like sea water.

Some tourists who visit this river actually feel like they are not in a river, they think that they are like being in a lake that is abroad because of the very beautiful natural scenery. The beauty of the clear and bluish water is the main attraction of the Sembra River. The clear blue water with views of the green and shady trees that surround it will provide a cool and calm atmosphere so that you will feel so peace and calm here.

Because it is located in Srer Village, Seremuk District, South Sorong Regency, you need to travel about 10 kilometers from Teminabuan City. This river is not only used as a tourist spot, you will find some local people doing some of their activities here. You will also find some children from the natives of Kampung Srer who usually swim in this river every day.

The water is clear and clean, feels cool on a hot day. Small fish can also be seen clearly. There are many types of fish in this river. There is a type of rainbow fish that has just been discovered, namely M sembrae. Rainbowsembrae is wrapped in a color combination of citron and metallic silver. In Sembra River, the fish was found. The river water where the fish lives is sourced from the karst area. It also underlines the importance of the karst area.

The tiny gold-bodied fish was seen slipping between the reed roots that rose to the surface of the river water. The golden yellow color dominates the entire body, from the scales to the eyelids. When the sun shines, it looks beautiful. First identified on an expedition in 2007-2008 in the Sembra River, South Sorong, Melanotaeniidae Sambre is one of the endemic freshwater ornamental fish from Bird's Head, West Papua.
