Lotek: Offering a Healthy Culinary Experience with a Unique Flavor

West Java is one of the regions that has a variety of local cultures, including traditional foods. One of them is Lotek.

Lotek is a traditional dish that has been around for centuries. It consists of vegetables seasoned with peanut sauce, served with lontong or warm rice, crackers, and fried onions. Lotek is similar to pecel, which is a dish made from boiled vegetables topped with a sauce made from peanut seasoning.

Lotek peanut sauce is usually made by grinding it in a mortar and pestle, and then diluting it. At the same time, sliced vegetables are added and mixed until they are all covered in the delicious peanut sauce. When making lotek peanut sauce, vendors usually add boiled potatoes to make the sauce thicker.

Lotek fillings usually consist of long beans, cabbage, bean sprouts, kangkung (water spinach), and spinach. Some people also add young jackfruit. The vegetables are boiled, sliced, and then drizzled with peanut sauce. They are also served with fried tempeh, shrimp paste, and galangal.

These three ingredients are ground together with other seasonings, such as peanuts, garlic, salt, palm sugar, and chili. It’s no surprise that the sauce gets even thicker.

Lotek is usually sweeter than pecel or gado-gado. Lotek can be served with lontong or warm rice, crackers, and fried onions.

Although it comes from Sunda, lotek is also found in other cities of Indonesia.
