Coffee Tourism as National Thematic Tourism

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia encourages coffee tourism to become a national thematic tourism. Especially considering that Indonesia is rich with a variety of coffee typical of each region. Thematic tourism can be an effective strategy for tourism in the region. Indonesia has developed a lot of thematic tourism such as coffee-themed thematic tours in Catur Tourism Village, Bali. This coffee tour is expected to be able to provide an essential experience for tourists in enjoying coffee tourism.

So tourists do not only enjoy fresh coffee from their origin place, but also enjoy the mountainous atmosphere, coffee plantations, harvesting activities, bean roasting, studying history and culture, and so on. So that thematic tourism is expected to become a national tourism trademark.

Unfortunately, until now, Indonesia does not yet have a comprehensive coffee tourism route nationally. Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy tries to initiate the creation of the Indonesia Coffee Trail as one of the national tourism trademarks. This pathway is a long-term program whose design can be realized in a maximum of 10 years.

The Indonesia Coffee Trail or coffee tour will cover areas from Sabang to Merauke and from Miangas to Rote Island. Hopefully, it can compete with existing Wine Trail schemes, such as those in France and New Zealand.
