Batam Centre
Batam Centre is face to Tering Bay; construction
work on the Batam Center has already begun. To be the pride of Batam,
the Center is a planned city with business district, hotels, shops
and a marina. Indonesia's President Soeharto and Singapore's first
Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew each planted a banyan tree on 29 November
1987, marking the close friendship between the two countries and
the beginning of construction on Batam Centre. Later Prime Minister
Mahathir of Malaysia to join them planted a tree. The first buildings
are almost completed and will soon be joined by international hotels
including a Sheraton and a Shangri-La.
