Toraja Tours 5 Days and 4 Nights
The trip into Toraja Land – its a great Experience with private guided tours. Sulawesi island contains a great variety of exotic people, culture and natural wonders. It is another unspoiled paradise. A journey into the strange world of mysterious Toraja people is truly a rare adventure, made especiall are by their haunting tombs – holes carved out of sheer rock faces guarded by wooden effigies known as “ Tau tau” that stare out across the jungle. Toraja Land, is known for its unique culture and ancient traditions. The center of tourism is Rantepao, 328 km from Makassar by road (about 8 hours). The Toraja has preserved part of theirs culture until this days, the traditional houses or Tongkonan are of exceptional beauty, they are raised on piles and topped with massive roof.
Day 01: Arrival in Makassar/Drive to Tana Toraja
Upon arrival at Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, meeting service. Afterwards, take approx. 8 hours drive to Tana Toraja passing through the Buginese villages with their typical wooden houses. Lunch will be served at a seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. In the afternoon stop on the Lakawan hill for having coffee break while enjoy the wonderful view of the erotic mountain. In the afternoon arrive in Rantepao. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 02: Fullday Toraja Tour
After breakfast, we will take you on another full day Tana Toraja exploring. Today we will visit Nanggala, local Torajan villages famous for their large Tongkonans and old rice barns. On to Bori’ where we can find ancient stone megaliths. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Rantepao. After lunch, drive to Rantepao.
Day 03: Full Day Tana Toraja Tour
After breakfast, we will take you on another full day Tana Toraja tour. Today we will take a scenic drive to Batutumonga where we can enjoy many spectacular views, green rice terraces and other unique sites around the area. First visit Palawa the traditional villages with lot of Tongkonan houses and rice barns. Lunch will be served on the spot. Visit Lo’ko Ma’ta the huge stone grave in the area. In the afternoon, take a short trekking through several villages nearby to explore the Torajan local life. Than back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 04: Full Day Tana Toraja Tour
After breakfast, our trip will start to visit Lemo (the graves on the cliffs site with effigies), Kambira (baby grave on a big tree), Tampang Allo (erong or wooden coffins and statues in the cave), Suaya (the cliffs site graves of seven kings of Sangalla), lunch at local restaurant. Kete Kesu is a local Torajan village where we can see the traditional Tongkonan houses and the rice barns. Back to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 05: Drive Back to Makassar/Transfer Out
After breakfast, drive back to Makassar. Lunch will be served at seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. In the afternoon arrive in Makassar. Onwards, transfer directly to Hasanuddin Airport Makassar to catch your flight for your next destination. End of tour.
