Toraja Discovery Trip 4 Days/3 Nights

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Makassar – Rantepao – Toraja (L,D)
Upon Arrival at Hasanuddin airport you will be met by your Exotissimo guide and private car. Drive to Rantepao (8 hours), through the remote villages of the Bugis people. Stop this afternoon for lunch at Bukit Indah Restaurant. Continue driving through the hills before reaching Rantepao in the late afternoon. The small capital Toraja is home to an ethnic group famous for their elaborate funeral rites, traditional houses and spectacular carving and dancing. You will spend the next two days exploring the Toraja villages and learning about their unique culture. Overnight in Rantepao.

Day 2 – Rantepao – Toraja (B,L,D)
This morning you will head south of Toraja to visit two traditional villages and their surroundings. Begin with a drive to Lemo and Suaya villages which are surrounded by cliffs pierced with graves and very realistic tau tau (hanging effigies) of deceased nobility. Stop for lunch at local restaurant. This afternoon, visit Londa village where wooden coffins are suspended by ropes and poles extending from the cliffs. Continue to Ketekesu, a village which has one of the finest ensembles of Tongkonan (Toraja traditional houses). You will return to the hotel late this afternoon, where the rest of the day will be spent at your leisure. Overnight in Rantepao.

Day 3 – Rantepao – Toraja (B,L,D)
Rise early for breakfast before you head out to visit the villages north of Rantepao. Follow this with a visit to Batutumonga where you will take a light trek through the Toraja villages. Perched on the slopes of Mount Sesean, walk through the villages of Bori and Palawa where you will get to meet the locals. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon visit Marante, a village noted for its Tau Tau which are located on a cliff and dressed all in white. Return to the hotel for dinner. Overnight in Rantepao.

Day 4 – Rantepao – Makassar / Departure (B,L)
After an early breakfast, drive back to Makassar (8 hours) stopping en route for lunch in Pare Pare.
