Papua Pegunungan

Papua Pegunungan Province is a province in Indonesia. It is located on the island of Papua. Its capital is in Jayawijaya Regency. Papua is the first and only province in Indonesia that is surrounded by land and has no coastline. Papua Pegunungan Province is next to Papua Province to the north, Papua New Guinea to the east, South Papua Province to the south, and Central Papua Province to the west. Papua Pegunungan Province is in the eastern Jayawijaya Mountains. This mountain range is the highest in Indonesia. It has peaks such as Puncak Mandala and Puncak Trikora.

This province is part of the La Pago traditional region, where various tribes live in valleys surrounded by high mountains. These tribes grow sweet potatoes and raise pigs. One of these valleys, the Baliem Valley, is famous for its traditional festivals.

Apart from Indonesian, the people of the Papua Mountains Province also use several local or regional languages, such as Dani, Ketengban, Kimyal, Kosarek, Lanny, Nduga, Ngalum, Nggem, Walak, Yali, and others.

Papua Pegunungan is a mountainous region, and it also has a traditional house called the Honai. The word "Honai" is the name for the traditional house occupied by men. The house for women is called the Ebe'ai. Both are typical houses of Papua Pegunungan, and they can accommodate five to ten people.

The Papua Pegunungan Province has traditional weapons, such as arrows, which are also used by the Kurulu district. They are famous for two types of arrows: the supa arrow, which is used for war, and the Warn Wakiwy arrow, which is used for hunting birds.

For traditional dishes, there's the delicious "barak batu" (stone-grilled food). The people of Papua Pegunungan Province look forward to the "bakar batu" (stone-grilled food) every year. It's a traditional dish that's delicious and popular. This meal is an important tradition in the Papua Pegunungan. Villagers cook it together, and it is also cooked at events where people come together to celebrate things like births, traditional weddings, and the coronation of tribal chiefs.

It is called Bakar Batu because the stones are burned until they are red-hot, then piled on top of the food to be cooked. Each tribe or place has a different name. For example, the names are Lago Lakwi (Lani, Tolikara, Logo Lakwi Dani, Puncak), Mogo Gapil (Paniai), Kit Oba Isogoa (Wamena, Jayawijaya), Kerep Kan (Nduga), and Hupon (Pegunungan Bintang).
