Noken Papua
Noken is one of the woven crafts made of bark fibers or plants such as pandanus, orchids, and others. The plants are then made like ropes and arranged horizontally and on top of each other so that they resemble a net shape and can function like a bag used in general.

Papua Noken Philosophy
This traditional handcrafted bag also has a philosophy. The Papuan Noken philosophy is of great cultural and socio-economic value throughout the provinces of Papua and West Papua in Indonesia.

Noken is considered a typical Papuan icon that the community is starting to abandon. Even though Noken represents the culture of the Papuan people, because almost all ethnic Papuans recognize this object and use it for their daily needs.

Noken Papua, which is known today, was made by 250 tribes in Papua, but now its function is also starting to be replaced by more modern objects.

In recent years, Papua's cultural heritage has been under threat, but because of its uniqueness, Noken Papua has been registered with UNESCO as one of the traditional works and world cultural heritage.

On December 4, 2012, the typical Noken of the Papuan people was designated as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. This big step was taken at the same time to secure the sustainability of Noken for future generations.

Men and women use Papuan Noken to carry plantation products, catch from the sea or lake, firewood, babies or small animals as well as to shop and store items at home.

Noken is also often used for traditional celebrations, or given as a peace offering. This intricate craft has been passed down from generation to generation and demands refined tactical skills, dedicated care and nothing short of flaws.
