Top 5 Things to See and Do in Indonesia

    1. Relax in Bali

Bali is probably the most famous of Indonesia’s islands. Although often crowded with travelers, there is no escaping the fact that this place is beautiful. Try some surfing at Bingin Beach or visit the Pura Besakih, the Mother Temple, which is a truly stunning building. Make sure you see some traditional Balinese dancing in Ubud.

    2. Dive in Gili Islands

For a true sense of an island paradise, head to the Gili Islands. You’ll find excellent scuba and snorkel facilities as well as great nightlife on Gili Trawangan. These islands are super popular with backpackers.

    3. Amaze Yourself in Borobudur

Borobudur is a huge Buddhist temple complex dating from the 9th century. As you walk up to the top, you can see reliefs meant to highlight Buddhist teachings. It is said you can’t move on to the top until you discovered the meaning of each relief.

    4. See Komodo Dragons

The subject of more nature documentaries than any other lizard, the Komodo dragon is a force to be reckoned with. Komodo National Park, part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, is the only place to see the world’s largest lizard in the wild.

    5. Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park

Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park covers a total of 800 square kilometers at the center of East Java. Get up early to catch one of the most memorable sunrises of your life. The easiest way to get here is from Probolinggo, through the village of Ngadisari. A number of tour operators also run guided trips through the park.

Hike Up and Watch Sunrise Over Volcanoes

Indonesia’s volcanoes are more than just picturesque – they hold entire civilisations, represent cultural and religious values, and are home to rare natural phenomena.

Trek and hike up one of the many volcanoes of Indonesia, one being the most famous is the Mount Bromo in Java another is Mount Rinjani in Lombok. The hike up to view sunrise over Mount Bromo is famous for many reasons, but sometimes viewing it from the tip of the volcano across crater is also breathtaking.

A trip to Bromo usually involves at least two activities: sunrise at Mount Pananjakan with the view of Mount Bromo, followed by a hike to the top of Bromo to see its epic crater. Enjoy an ethereal sunrise, with the backdrop of Bromo’s blown-off top and its surrounding peaks. This mountain has many other cool things in its vicinity. The itinerary can continue with wandering around the ‘Sea of Sand’ on a jeep, stopping by the vast, picturesque Savannah Hill, or discovering mighty waterfalls scattered around the mountain’s base.

Next is Batur’s sunrise that is one of the most sought-after experiences in Bali, with the hiking trails often packed with tourists. This mountain owes its breathtaking sunrise to its surrounding sister peaks, which make for a picture-perfect daybreak to witness once you’re on top. Mount Batur also has a stunning ‘double caldera’ and lush jungle, with cool crisp mountain air to enjoy while hiking all the way up. Despite being 1,717m (5,633ft) high, a hike to the summit can be completed in less than three hours – making the experience accessible for virtually everyone.
