    Juwata Crocodile Captivity, West Tarakan - North Kalimantan

    Juwata Crocodile Captivity is located in the Village of Karang Harapan, West Tarakan. This object is one of the leading attractions in the town of Tarakan and it has collection of crocodiles from several regions in Kalimantan. With an area of about 5 hectares, this crocodile farm have been initiated since 1991.

    There are three types of crocodiles bred here. They are the Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), Crocodile Supit (tamistoma scheillius), and Fresh Water Crocodile (Crocodylus siamlisus)

    There are 4 crocodile species that are protected in Indonesia. One of the species come from Papua, namely Crocodilus novaeguineae, or it better known as Buaya Papua.

    This crocodile farm is made to breed and raise the crocodiles were then harvested for some products. Products that can be obtained from the crocodile is the meat, skin, and a variety of other materials such as teeth. There are many species of crocodiles that have been bred in this captivity. Starting from numbers of crocodiles to be thousands of it; this attracts many tourists to come and becomes one of tourism potentials.

    Crocodile skin is processed into products such as purses, handbags, belts, and shoes. Most of crocodile skin in PBJ is used for export purposes.
