Cunca Wulang Canyon and Waterfalls - Labuan Bajo

Many travelers do not know that there are some alternative tourism that can be enjoyed around Labuan Bajo besides sea travel. The natural conditions that are close to hills or highlands make Labuan Bajo also has the potential be a main place such as tourist attractions in surrounding area Mbeliling Forest. Probably not much popular also with the name of Mbeliling Forest, especially tourist outside Flores. Mbeliling Forest itself is one shaped green area nearby the forest of Labuan Bajo and categorized as forest tour because it saves a lot of tourism potential. One is the existence of unique canyon waterfalls called Cunca Wulang.

Cunca Wulang is located 30 km to the east of Labuan Bajo with tropical rainforest setting. Impressive waterfalls cascade into beautiful, fresh-water pools and lead into a series of smaller waterfalls and rivers a few kilometers downstream.

In recent years, Cunca Wulang gained popularity among the canyoning community as an excellent destination for this popular outdoor sport. Even if canyoning is not your favorite sport, the area still offers good hiking and swimming options. The medium-impact hike to Cunca Wulang from Wersawe Village is pleasantly seamed by paddy fields in different stages of their planting and harvesting cycle. Vanilla, coffee, candlenut, and cacao can also be seen along the trail; and the last, steep part leads you through a section of lush tropical rain forest.

Cunca Wulang Canyon can be enjoyed by families as part of a day trip to dip in the beautiful pools. Adventurers seeking the thrills of canyoning in combination with navigational travel skills in the wilderness will be rewarded as well.

You can combine the trip to Cunca Wulang with an excursion to the Rodak limestone caves, which takes you about 60 minutes of hiking. However, the expertise of a local guide will be needed to find the way to the caves.

    How to get there:
Cunca Wulang Canyon is located in Wersawe Village, Mbeliling District, Manggarai Barat Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Follow the main road from Labuan Bajo to Ruteng. After 26km you will reach Cekonobo where you have to turn left, heading downhill towards Wersawe Village. It is 4km from the main road crossing to Wersawe, and the road has recently been paved. It is possible to go there by car or motorbike. But depending on the season it can get pretty rough to drive. After heavy rains, it may even be impossible to go there by car.
