    Sumur Temple, Sidoarjo

On the south of Candi Pari located Candi Sumur (Well Temple), that got its name for a dry well inside the temple. This temple is badly damaged only half of the wall left. As the location that are nearby, probably candi Sumur and Pari are located in a complex as there is no temple that stand alone.

Differs than Dutch founding, folkloresaid that the temple was built as symbol of fertility of the local village as paddy or pari producer to tribute to Majapahit King. And Candi Sumur is the source of water for paddy field irrigation. Before delivering the crop to Majapahit, the crop was collected in a region approximately 1 km south of Candi Pari, called Candi Pamotan.

Sumur Temple is located about 100-200 m in south-west of Candi Pari. Currently this temple is in disrepair, the rest pieces are just the wall, which lies in the east and south, along the floor and the building foundation.

The temple was made by red brick. Founded at the same time with Candi Pari and both are included the ancient Heritage in Sidoarjo. Those temples are inspected on October 16, 1906.

The location of sumur temple is only 100 meters from the Temple Pari. Different with Candi Pari which has a size much larger and has been succeeded in re-renovated, Sumur Temple is not so. This temple has a smaller size only about half of Candi Pari and it is successfully restored only half of it.

This temple is made by bricks with a square shape with a size of 8 mx 8 m and 10 m high, overlooking to the West. The vertical architecture consists of the legs, body and roof which are not completely intact. On the body, there are empty booths which should contain the Linga-Yoni.

Based on the shape of the building which near from Candi Pari, it is predicted that this temple was founded around XIV century AD and the background is also Hinduism.
