Red face Sea turtles on Bangka island

All sea turtle species are threatened species, and near Sungailiat (which is the town between all the well known beaches of Bangka), is the sea turtle hatchery Tukik Babel, which is worth visiting if you are in the area. In the initiative Tukik Babel for rescuing 2 sea turtle species, you can witness how Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles are born (hatching) and raised for 2 months, until released into the open sea. You can also see some huge adult sea turtles, or get involved in releasing the small ones. This work is an important step for Bangka to become nature friendly, after being a mining island for decades.
