Kepulauan Karimun or Karimun islands is located in Karimun regency, Riau islands. Karimun regency is consists of 198 islands with 67 of them are inhabited.

Tanjung Balai is the capital and the main town of Karimun Islands, and also becomes the busiest town in Riau Islands. Perhaps this is due to the fact that it is somewhat of a cross-road between Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. You can walk around and explore this town on your own or you can take the local transportation like bus, which is very affordable to do so. If you want to have an experience of the rural lifestyle on a tropical Indonesian island, you need to get away from the main town of Tanjung Balai and walk around some of the local kampung areas or urban village.

The best way to go to Karimun Islands is by ferry from nearby Batam Island. The ferry leaves at Sekupang ferry terminal at Batam Island and it takes about 1 hour to reach Karimun Islands. The cost is very cheap and the surrounding scenery is very beautiful.
