Candidasa

Candi Dasa is one of Bali’s popular destinations, it is a seaside town in eastern Bali that rests on the edge of a lagoon. This area is famous by the tourist as lovely stop to laid back for beach time.

The history said that the fishing village was founded on the site by the 12th century. Candidasa was formerly known as Teluk Kehen [Fire Bay] and Cilidasa. There is a temple near the lagoon, with a statue of the fertility goddess Hariti surrounded by a group of children, and cilidasa translates from Balinese as “ten children.” The modern name is thought to be the shorten way of this older name. The town began to catch on as a tourist destination in the 1970s, since there is good snorkelling and diving in the area and the town provides easy access to other destinations in eastern Bali.

In Candidasa, there are bunches of destinations that the tourists can visit, like; The Bali Aga at Tenganan. In Candidasa there is not much beach found, especially at high tide. There is a quiet and little visited black sand beach at west of Candidasa, which is called Pantai Labuan Amok. Five kilometres on north east of Candidasa there is Pasir Putih (White Sand Beach), one of East Bali’s well-kept secrets. It’s a five hundred metre long, isolated, beautifully white sand beach fringed with coconut palms.

There is Goa Lawah temple and bat cave which is one of Bali’s key nine directional temples and serves as a guardian against dark spirits from the ocean. Other is, the lotus lagoon in the middle of town. Last but not least, the beautiful water palace at Tirta Gangga owned by the Karangasem Royal Family, is about 20 minutes northeast of Candidasa proper just to the north of Karangasem town. There are stunning rice paddy terraces in this area as well.
