Gethek in Javanese language means bamboo raft that becomes one of river transportation. Instead of using gethek for crossing the river, Solo people use it for other attraction as an annual parade called Bengawan Solo Gethek Festival.

This festival is held annually in Bengawan Solo river, as one of the icons in Solo. This festival is being held to promote Solo tourism, while to deliver the message to the inhabitant for not throwing trash in the river.

There are numbers of participants in this festival, each of them design their gethek in many themes that show their particular identity or just showing their idea.

The gethek participant start their journey from Ngepung village, Sangkrah sub-district and it finish in Badran village, Pucangsawit subdistrict. It takes 4 km and followed by 31 participants.
