The Golden Circle is one of the most popular routes in Iceland which brings you to experience not only Iceland’s nature, but also geology and history. We will cover Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park where Viking settlers stood centuries ago to edict national laws, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss, the spectacular golden waterfall.

Our first stop takes us to Thingvellir National Park where the oldest parliament was founded in the world over 1000 years ago. Many crucial events in Icelandic history took part here and it is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here you will also see how the earth is ever so slowly pulling apart along the North-America and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Next, we will visit the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur where you can see geysers, hot springs, steam vents and eerie blue algae. Although the Great Geysir is relatively dormant, Strokkur, also being one of the largest and most powerful geysers, it erupts almost every 5 minutes.
We then proceed to Gullfoss waterfall, which many consider to be the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as it is both high and mighty and stumbles in a deep gorge. Gullfoss is in fact 2 separate waterfalls, the upper one has a 11m drop and the lower one with 21m, beautifully angled creating a dramatic cascade. Here we will have a short coffee break at Gullfoss Café.
After that we go to Faxi, a small but beautiful waterfall. And then we head to Fridheimar, a greenhouse cultivation center where pesticide-free tomatoes and cucumbers are grown with the aid of geothermal power in Iceland. Our final stop of the day is the amazing 3,000 years-old Kerið crater before driving back to Reykjavik. At Kerið crater we also have the option to walk into the crater at a minimal entrance fee (EUR 2 / USD 3)
