Beautiful Snaefellsnes Peninsula Minibus Tour including Kirkjufell and Gerduberg
- Overview
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Western Iceland has often been called magical, and no wonder! It is said that being in the presence of Snæfellsjökull Glacier fills you with energy and that people feel great when they're in the surrounding area. But that's not all. Snæfellsnes Peninsula has a lot of other beautiful spots, for example small fishing villages, Kirkjufell Mountain, Berserkjahraun Lava Field and more. In this tour you´ll get on a bus in Reykjavík to see everything Snæfellsnes has to offer. We pick you up in Reykjavík and head towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We go through the Hvalfjörður tunnel, under the fjord and past the town of Borgarnes, and on the way we´ll stop for a short bathroom / snack break. When we get to the peninsula, after driving past the really cool Eldborg crater, we´ll stop at a black sand beach where you can walk around and watch the birds playing.
Next we´ll drive to Arnarstapi, below the magnificent Stapafell in the vicinity of Snæfellsjökull glacier where Jules Verne's "Journey to the center of the earth" took place. From Arnarstapi you´ll walk to Hellnar and have lunch. It's no ordinary walk, but takes you along very beautiful rock formations by the coast. We know not everyone's up for a long walk so riding the bus to Hellnar is no problem at all if you'd rather rest. We´ll let you in on a little secret. At Hellnar you´ll find Iceland's best fish soup. It's amazing.
Next up: Shipwrecks at Skipalónssandur beach. After learning about their history we´ll drive to the small town of Grundarfjörður where you´ll see mount Kirkjufell and a very pretty waterfall. After that we´ll go through the Berserkjahraun lava field and stop at a beautiful viewing spot on the Vatnaleið pass. The final stop before heading back to Reykjavík is at the stunning Gerðuberg basalt columns. On your way home you can enjoy the free wifi on board your bus, upload pictures and videos for friends and family to see. Of course, this is a guided tour so you´ll be informed of the history of each spot and your guide will tell you about anything else of interest along the way so you definitely won't be bored.
