Rome to Amalfi Coast Positano and Sorrento: Private Day trip
- Overview
Private day trip from Rome to Positano and Sorrento with a very nice Mercedes E Class or Minivan and personal English speaking driver. After leaving Rome and driving along the "Sun" Highway will first reach Sorrento in the morning then Positano to have lunch and spend a couple of hours shopping and souvenir hunting. You will be picked up from your hotel to start your 10-hour journey to Sorrento, a pretty little city where kindness and hospitality are handed down from one generation to the next. The main piazza of Sorrento, Piazza Tasso, takes it name from the poet Torquato Tasso who was born there in 1544. Enjoy lunch at one of the numerous restaurants or pizzerias or sit at one of the lovely cafés on the piazza and drink a good Italian coffee while you people watch and enjoy the fresh sea air. Since Sorrento is small it is very manageable on foot. Stroll down the lanes of the old city center and experience the lively Via San Cesareo - the beating heart of the town with it’s many colorful shops and tourists from all over the world. Sorrento is famous for the production of limoncello: an alcoholic digestive made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar. Sorrento is also known for their agricultural production of citrus fruit, wine, nuts and olives. There is also a craft tradition of inlaid wood called Marquetry. The Sorrentine Marquetry is still carried out today by master craftsmen who have refined their techniques but without relinquishing the tradition handed down by their ancestors.
After your time in Sorrento, take in the scenery and sands in Positano. Resting on a spectacular stretch of coast, the village is a lovely sight from a distance. Closer in you'll find a pleasant gathering of cafés and fashion boutiques. The skyline retains it's charm from a century ago: filled with the town's characteristic Saracen-inspired rooftop domes.
After your 10-hour day filled with culture and sightseeing, you will be returned to your hotel.
