Iceland Highlands Including Landmannalaugar and Hekla - Private Day-Tour by Jeep

Enjoy this private day trip from Reykjavik and take in the magical beauty of Icelandic highlands and lowlands, stopping by natural wonders en-route to Landmannalaugar. This Jeep tour will give you a chance to walk on ice, lava, volcanic ash, and later, warm up in a natural hot spring. This trip is customizable and can be tailor-made to suit your preferences.

Your tour will start by a pick up from Reykjavik, from there you will head off to ÃžjÃ³rsÃ¡rdalur valley, to stop at the HjÃ¡lparfoss (helping waterfall). Its name dates back to the times when travelers that arrived to this area could have let their horses refresh and graze.

Then you will head to the highlands - towards the stunning wilderness. Highland roads require four-wheel drive vehicles so you will ride a Jeep. Crossing rivers and driving on coarse, gravel roads on your way to Landmannalaugar will be an exciting experience.

Then you will stop at two places: FrostastaÃ°avatn lake and LjÃ³tipollur crater, formed in 1477 and filled with a cobalt-blue deep lake, before heading to your main highlight of the tour - Landmannalaugar - an area forged by different geological elements, such as extensive lava fields and the multi-colored rhyolite mountains. Awash in a rainbow of colors, the mountains fade from pink to brown and green, with splashes of yellow, blue, purple and black in between.

Upon arrival to Landmannalaugar, you will enjoy your packed lunch (bought previously) before setting off for a short hike and after about an hour's hike you can unwind in the pool or explore the territory on your own before heading back to Reykjavik (you can also skip the hike and only relax in the pool).

On the way back, you will be driven through DÃ³madalur, offering remarkable scenery consisting of lava fields and mountains, as well as the waterfall ÃžjÃ³fafoss called "Waterfall of the Thieves", because Vikings would drown thieves there in the old days, binding their hands and feet and throwing them into the falls from the high cliff.

Finally, you will stop by a Hekla volcano and take a walk in the lava fields. Hekla was called "the Gateway to Hell" in the Middle Ages, and is IcelandÂ’s most active volcano which was last erupted in 2000. You will then head back to Reykjavik, where you will be dropped off according to your preferences.
