Small-Group Lava Tube Caving Tour Reykjavik
  • Overview

A small-group lava tube caving tour in an old volcano field that includes 3 different caves all in different shapes and sizes. A very personal experience with groups of maximum 8 people. In the biggest cave you will have to go on our knees and crawl a bit so be prepared and wear appropriate shoes. In the main cave which is also the darkest one you will go deep into the cave, and the guide will tell you all about it.
This is a fun 2-3 hour tour where you get to explore the underworld of Iceland and see what a volcano eruption can create. You will be provided with a torch/headlight, a safety helmet and fun geological facts about the lava tube caves.

After being picked up at your hotel, you will arrive at the first cave where you will be given a safety helmet and a headlight. After adjusting this your guide will lead down the first cave, crawling on hands and knees, followed by two other caves connected to the same tube.

Once out of the caves you will have a good overview of Reykjavik and it's surroundings. At the end of the tour, the guide will show you a map of the area you have visited: this specific area has over 20 caves and is a true lava field.

Once you have taken your time to explore and take photos you will be dropped off back at your hotel in Reykjavik.

The duration of the tour is about 2-3 hours in total, the drive to the caves takes around 20 minutes.
