The tour leaves from Reykjavik in a Super Jeep and makes its way toward one of Iceland’s highest and most austere interior roads, Kaldidalur or “Cold Valley”. The tour drives alongside the western part of the Langjokull glacier, pausing to get up close and personal with one of nature’s finest gifts. Depending on time of year, as well as weather conditions, you may have the opportunity put your footprints on the glacial surface.

Next you will head north for a stop at one of this area’s lava tube caves, we will enter the Caves, helmets and lights are provided. Centuries ago, caves like this were inhabited by outlaws. Then you will arrive at the breathtaking Hraunfossar waterfalls flowing into the glacial river Hvita (Hvítá) from beneath the tree covered lava fields.

Leaving there, youÂ’ll pass through the historic site of Reykholt, home of IcelandÂ’s famous chieftain and historian Snorri Sturluson. Here, Sturluson wrote some of his greatest literature in the age of saga before he was murdered near the hot springs that are still used today.

Next, visit Deildartunguhver, the largest and most powerful hot spring in the Northern Hemisphere and a source for much of western IcelandÂ’s heating needs.
