Tour of Soviet Vilnius
  • Overview

Enjoy a 2,5-hour walking tour with a local guide to discover traces of 50 years of Soviet regime around the city of Vilnius.

Leave the old town of Vilnius and visit the main Soviet heritage sites. Visit the places that most foreigners miss. Find out how basketball led us to independence, why there is a statue for Frank Zappa in Vilnius, how KGB spied on foreign guests and in what hotel all the foreigners had to stay, where to find the best hot chocolate in Vilnius, why there was no unemployment in the Soviet Union and much more.
On 1990 March 11th Lithuania became the first country to declare independence from the USSR after 50 years of soviet occupation. Those years made a huge influence on ordinary peopleÂ’s lives, LithuaniaÂ’s culture and its architecture. The way to independence was not easy but the Lithuania never gave up, starting with one of the longest guerrilla (partisan) wars in Europe in the 20th century, finishing with the Singing revolution and the Baltic human chain.

However, that time was not only negative. It gave us new buildings and architecture style, brought us some new traditions and a lot of funny and crazy stories that should not be forgotten and must be shared.
