Apart from travelers, the island also becomes scientists’ favorite destination in studying the richness of nature. Some historians are also fond of the island due to the presence of numerous historical sites, scattered in some parts of Salawati Island.
Salawati is a serene island, as it is surrounded by lush plants and trees. Some wild animals are also often seen there, so tourists can witness those exotic animals sometimes. Next, there is a stunning beach with a pier. The water is clear and the waves are small. In the shoreline, there are several traditional cottages, on which visitors can relax. The sand is soft and white, as well. Not to mention the wooden pier often becomes a location to enjoy fishing and sightseeing. What’s next? The island also becomes the home of the invaders’ (the Dutch and the Nippon) old bunkers. Not to mention the island has lush sago forests!
Exploring Salawati Island
Apart from domestic tourists, Salawatis is also popular among foreigners, especially Australians. It is because the island is surrounded by beautiful sea with its numerous nautical creatures. These include fishes, corals, etc. The warm seawater also becomes a reason why tourists would love visiting the island. That means swimming, snorkeling, and diving are three primary fun activities to do in Salawati. Almost all visitors are into these activities, after all. The calm sea current makes it possible for beginners to explore the water.
For those who love history, the island also offers several reminiscences of World War II. The most popular ones are the old bunkers, on which tourists can take pictures and explore. The conditions of these structures aren’t too great, as they are already old. Still, they are quite worthy and become tourists’ favorite background for photography. Apart from that, they become historians’ objects of study. No wonder, some passionate historians often come to Salawati and conduct a small study about those historical sites.
