Museum is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artifacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific importance and some public museums make them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary. Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Museums have varying aims, ranging from serving researchers and specialists to serving the general public. The goal of serving researchers is increasingly shifting to serving the general public.

One of the famous museum is the Museum Indonesia. Museum Indonesia was built on the initiative of Mrs. Tien Soeharto and established on the land area of 20,100 square meters with a building area of 7,000 square meters. The museum was inaugurated by President Soeharto on 20 April 1980. Around the main house, there are ancillary buildings and sculptures that have names and symbolic meanings. Relief that is located at the front of the main house was taken from the Ramayana entitled Hanuman Duta. The museum has three floors of Balinese architecture is developed from Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which explains the existence of three sources of human happiness, which is a relationship with God, fellow human beings, and the natural environment. The first floor has a theme of national unity, in this area, there are a variety of custom clothing and bridal costumes from all provinces in Indonesia. On the second floor, there are different cultural objects in the form of traditional houses, cultural property, and equipment of livelihoods. And on the third floor, there are works of art and the art of the new creation, among others, various fabrics, various handicrafts of metal and wood carving. The museum is open on Monday-Sunday from 08:00 to 16:00.
