Ngempon Temple, The Witness of Ancient Era

Ngempon Temple or also called as Muncul Temple is one of the Hindu temple located in Semarang Regency. Ngempon Temple is located in Ngempon Village, Bergas Sub-district, Semarang regency, located about two kilometers from the Karangjati Market. Ngempon temple is a relic of Sanjaya dynasty which was built in the 8th century.

Ngempon Temple is situated in the valley which is a rice field, the temple is surrounded by fences which deliberately designed to restrict surrounding the temple. Besides, the position of the temple is near the river. The temple consists of nine temple buildings, but only four left. The four temples that have been reconstructed are located in the middle of the area. At a glance the reconstructed temples looks the same because the details, arches and its ornaments exactly looks the same, but actually there is a temple which is larger than the others.

While the five temples that are not reconstructed is located behind the reconstructed temples. Its foundation stacked with rocks which are the temple ruins. It is very difficult to estimate the magnitude of the temple that has not been built moreover the shape but it is thought that from that pile of rocks, the temple is smaller than the temples that have been built.

The Construction of the temple was done in 1952 by the Department of Antiquities to construct a temple from the ruins. In its development, in 2006 Archaeological Heritage Preservation Hall Central Java constructed a temple which is smaller than the first. There are 9 temple foundations spots found in this area, but currently only 4 temples has just been constructed.

Actually in the temple there are statues found among others Durga, Ganesha, Kinara Kinari, and nandi. These statues measuring one meter. And now stored in Ronggowarsito Museum Semarang.
