Lake Poso, The Largest Island in Indonesia

One of the tourist highlights in Poso and in Central Sulawesi too, is Lake Poso. Lake Poso is the third largest lake in Indonesia measaring about 32 km in length and 16 km wide. The lake is pretty deep with a depth of about 360 m in the south and 510 m in the north.

The air in Lake Poso is very cool, as Lake Poso is located in the highlands at an altitude of 657 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains. The water in the lake is very clear and has two colors; the water in the border of lake is green while in the middle it is blue. You can spend time swimming in the clear water, or you can go out fishing. Something unique about Lake Poso is that water is salt like sea water and it is surrounded even by white sandy beaches. The waves in the lake can be quite big caused by the wind.

Shores of Lake Poso are gently and not rocky, very safe for running around the lake. You can also rent a boat and go around the lake, available in the terminal Montor Tentena or join locals on their boat which plies to Peura at the end of Lake Poso. Around Lake Poso you will find several amenities such as lodging and dining that serves a variety of seafood dishes ready to pamper your taste buds.

The government of Poso usually holds a Poso Festival at this lake every year, so before you visit here you'll want to find out when Poso Festival is being held.
