Sendang Gile Waterfall, Natural Waterfall in Lombok

Sendang Gile Waterfall is favorite destination when the tourist came to Lombok. It is a tourism destination near to Mount Rinjani National Park. This Sendang Gile Waterfall is located in Senaru village, Bayan sub-district, Lombok Utara district, West Nusa Tenggara province. You can say that this waterfall is located at the gate to hike on Mount Rinjani.

This waterfall comes from the clean, natural, clear and refreshing Mount Rinjani’s water spring. According to local people, the name ‘Sendang Gile’ was taken from the way they found this waterfall accidentally while hunting wild lion which disturbed their settlement a lot and made a mess. The lion ran into the woods then the waterfall was found unpurposely. Since then, local people called Singa Gila as Sengang Gile, then Sengang changed into Sendang and finally the waterfall was called as Sendang Gile.

This 31 meters high waterfall is located at 600 meters above sea level. There are two levels in this waterfall, where the first level came up from a hill above and fall into the pond below. The water then falls down forming the second level then falls again forming a river below. The bottom of the river is quite flat, making tourists can enjoy the freshness by bathing comfortably.

One interesting thing from this Sendang Gile Waterfall is that local people believe in a magic power owned by this waterfall. If there’s any tourist wash their face or bathe in this waterfall, they will look a year younger than their recent ages. But still, it’s only a myth believed by local people.
