Lake Tamblingan, the Smallest Beautiful Lake in Bali

Lake Tamblingan is situated north of Mount Lesung. It is best reached from Denpasar heading to Singaraja then turning left at the Pancasari village following the ascending route then past Wanagiri and Munduk villages. En route, travelers will pass Danau Buyan (Lake Buyan) and be treated to a view of beautiful Lake Tamblingan from the distance. This particular lake is the smallest of Bali's lake, measuring 1.15 square kilometers in surface area. Lake Tamblingan offers stunning panorama and natural atmosphere. There are no motorboats here and visitors intent on sightseeing may wish to rent small boats owned by locals. Tamblingan is derived from the words 'tamba' (medicine) and 'elingang' (spiritual ability). Water from the lake was used by a shaman to cure disease in the area, hence the name. Since then, many temples were erected around the lake. There are about 13 temples including the famous Pura Ulun Danu whose stone buildings were built during the pre-Hindu era, before the 10th century.
