Pancuran Pitu, Hot Springs Sulfur in Baturaden

Baturaden, located near Mount Slamet, Central Java, has a natural tourism potential which is quite promising. It is called Pancuran Pitu or Seven waterfalls which are natural geothermal springs come directly from Mount Slamet. This location is called Pancuran Pitu or Seven waterfalls because there are actually seven waterfalls. Pancuran in the local or Javanese language, means waterfall while Pitu means seven. Hence the name Pancuran Pitu or Seven waterfalls.

The water hot water coming from Pancuran Pitu contains sulfur. This condition has lasted for hundreds of years. The rock through which the hot water passes has turned red-brown. The height of the main water is only about 1 meter. What makes it interesting is the seven arch waterfalls created by the continuous flow of hot sulfur water.

Its location which is at the foot of Mount Slamet makes it a bit difficult to access with cars. Usually visitors would ride a motorcycle or bicycle, because they must pass through some winding roads and sharp turns. The more adventurous ones can walk through a trail straight to the entrance or the parking lot which is located above Pancuran Pitu. You just need to go down hundreds of stairs made of cement towards the waterfalls. If you bring your own vehicle, you can put it in the parking lot provided. To get to PancuranPitu, you must go down approximately 300 meters. If you feel tired of even sprain your ankle while going down the stairs, you needn’t worry, because there are many traditional masseurs standing by and are ready to help you. They offer their services using some mud containing sulfur which is said to be very good for your health.

To explore and enjoy the sights around Pancuran Pitu and its surroundings you just need to pay Rp. 15,000 for a season ticket. But if you go straight to the waterfalls, you only have to pay Rp. 5,000.

In addition to the exotic surroundings, the hot sulfur in Pancuran Pitu can also treat various skin diseases. You can soak in the warm water massaged by the shower coming from the waterfalls. If you prefer more privacy there are also private bathrooms with sulfur baths.
