    East Java's Calender Of Events

    The East Javas Calendar of Events are contains the schedule of some traditional ceremonies, traditions, festivals and performances which held in the cities and the regencies in East Java. It is designed to promote and to publicize the tourism agenda in the whole area in East Java.

    It is important to inform that the local communities usually determine the schedules of the ceremonial events by using the calendars of Javanese, Moslem, and Hindu Tenggerese. Therefore, to assure the exact date of the events, it is advisable to confirm the local Government Tourist Offices.

    We hope the East Javas Calendar of Events will be helpful and useful for visitors and travelers.

    SUNAN BONANG HAUL
    In order to commemorate the death of Sunan Bonang, there are various Islamic activities held include:
    - Performances Islamic tambourine
    - Mass circumcision
    - Khotamul qur'an
    - Reading Koran

    This ceremony is calles as Murwakala, which is the ritual of releasing bad luck by having puppet show performance and some festives celebration that particularly come up from Bojonegoro cultures.

    REBO WEKASAN
    Wekasan Rebo is a charity in the form of salvation around the sacred lake. This activity is performed on the last Wednesday in the month of Sapar, Javanese calender.

    September Tourism Calendar

    1. Sapi Sono
    Location:Sampang Stadium.
    Sapi Sono contest is held before bull race starts. Sapi Sono is a pair of elaborately ornamental cows controlled by a jockey to follow the sound of music stepping toward to the gateway. Wearing fully ornamented clothes and accessories the bulls look unique and beautiful. They are accompanied with sronen traditional music.


    2. Karapan Sapi
    Location:Pamekasan Regency
    Bull Race originally comes from Madura and becomes a folk festival from time to time. It is usually held after the harvest season to express gratefulness of good harvest. Bull Race for Madurese becomes a pride which cannot be separated from their culture, particularly for the owner. It is annually held to win the trophy of President of Republic of Indonesia. The grand final will be the summit competition usually called as €œGubeng Bull Race€. The race itself consists of a couple of bulls contested for their speed controlled by a jockey known as Tukang Tongkok sitting on the beam of bracket called €œkaleles€. Before entering the race area, the two bulls equipped with Kaleles and panggonong tied up between those two bulls and even equipped with clothes like a couple of bride and bridegroom, accompanied with seronen music and traditional musical instrument like gamelan.


    3. Banyuwangi
    Location:Banyuwangi Regency
    A special attraction of carnival with the theme of ethnic by using traditional contemporary Banyuwangi costumes. It is one of the alternatives to empower art and culture that have grown and developed in the community and performed in a very spectacular parade.


    4. Kite Festival
    Date : 14 September
    Location:Sand Sea, Mount Bromo, Probolinggo Regency
    Probolinggo government and Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Office hold kite festival to promote Mount Bromo and generate tourist visit.
