First time to Bali.. bad hotel choice?!

Hey everyone coming to Bali on the 5th of February for 4 nights. Have booked to stay at the Rhadana hotel in Kuta after reading the great reviews on TA however the last week we have noticed some negative reviews (to be expected I understand no where is perfect) but the response from management response has been quite rude. We are now rethinking our booking. As this is a relatively last minute trip we are unsure whether to stick with Kuta or try a different part? We are 2 30 year old girls looking for a chilled break, would like to have bars and restaurants to go to in the evening and some shops, not too fused on being near the beach but a nice pool would be a bonus? Also any other tips for first timers to Bali.
