Lore Lindu National Park, Central Sulawesi - Indonesia
Taman Nasional Lore Lindu (Lore Lindu National Park) is a forested protected area on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, in the province of Central Sulawesi. Located on the beautiful yet complex looking rift valleys and steep folds of the mountains in the central part of Sulawesi, Lore Lindu National Park covers an area of 568,000 acres (217,000 hectares) with an altitude range of 200 – 2,610 m.
It is really a place worth for visit. Lore Lindu Nastional Park is considered as a safe home to all the endangered mammal species of Sulawesi. Some of the mammals that constitute the family of the animals in the park are Mountain Anoa (a dwarf buffalo once easily spotted but now rarely viewed), Babirusa (an animal resembling both pig and hippopotamus), three species of tarsier (the world's smallest primate), Tonkean Macaque, and Marsupial Cuscus. The park is also home to a huge 227 different species of birds of which 77 are exclusive to Lore Lindu National Park only.
In addition to the rich wildlife, the Bada Valley located in the park also contains stone megaliths dating from 3000 years B.C. to 1500 years A. D. Some megalithic statues of thousands of years at Napu, Besoa and Bada Valleys are consider to have relation with their ancestor worship. The statues with 1,5 m to 4 m height. Making beautifull scenery, the Lariang, Gumbasa and Palu rivers pass through the park, which is rich in flora and fauna. For its uniqueness, Lore Lindu National Park has been declared a Man and Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Visitors can do manythings in Lore Lindu National Park, such as Birding Trip, Trekking and Adventure Trip. It's a wonderful area for trekking - the park is rich in exotic plant and animal life, including butterflies larger then a human hand. It's also home to several indigenous tribes, most of whom wear colourful clothing - at least for traditional ceremonies.
This park can be reach from several routes, such as Palu-Kamarora by car arround 2.5 hours (50 km), Palu-Wuasa by car, 5 hours (100 km), Wuasa-Besoa by car, 4 hours, and then Palu-Kulawi, 6 hours (80 km). The trip into the Park area can be made on foot or on horseback along these routes: Gimpu-Besoa-Bada, 3 days; and Saluki (Sidaonta)-Lake Lindu, 1 day. Best time of year to visit are July to September.
