These girls are Berna & Mapi, Kombai girls living in the heart of West Papua. They still live a stone-age life as their ancestors did thousands of years ago. Claypot and metal are unknown to the Kombai. Every 3 or 4 days, they pound a sago tree to get the pulp and extract it by the river to get the flour. They can get 2 big lumps of flour that last their family for 2 to 3 days.

May 5, 2009 - hey idiot, they arent living in the stone age like our ancestors. our ancestors didnt have the tools and machines or insight that they display in this film (and in general). Just because they dont wear clothing and live differently from us "modernized" people doesnt mean they are any less modernized.

May 20, 2009 - hahaha kondordv, you're really pathetic. it's obvious your view of the world is very limited. ever travelled outside of Europe to see how people live elsewhere? if you can't manage that, there's always that thing they call "reading" which really helps broaden your perspective and helps prevent you making a complete ass of yourself.

thehappyinsomniac Says:

May 20, 2009 - Hey Joe. yeah, it's really hard not to have a negative impact on a situation like this as you're obviously aware. I lived and worked in Telefomin in P.N.G for some time and there was a lot of change happening there, even to the extent that someone had brought in a vehicle. I didn't ever ask how it was brought in. I assumed it came in an Australian Army C130 Hercules as there are no roads into Telefomin from anywhere. I wish it had never been taken in though.

alexpdog Says:

Oct 13, 2009 - The best beer I ever had was South Pacific which was made in Papua, New Guinea. I watched a documentary on the area and never drank it again. Lets just say the sanitary conditions left a lot to be desired.

JoeSTARGAZER Says:

Oct 15, 2009 - I don't think so. My friend visited the village several months ago and told me they are just OK. The woman one the left now has a baby.

JoeSTARGAZER Says:

Oct 21, 2009 - The woman on the left named Berna is now living in Yaniruma from the Rerefano's village a few hours from there. She and her husband Baiyo are still alive and not killed or eaten. You can also check yourself if you are dissatisfied. It's only take 1something hour flight from Jayapura with a small aircraft to the jungle.

kryptoniterxn117 Says:
