Feel The Chilling and Refreshing Nuance at Magetan
Magetan is one of regencies in East Java that mostly visited by tourists. The area is the closest to the border of East Java and Central Java. This regency has direct border with Ngawi in north, Madiun city and Madiun regency in east, Ponorogo, Karanganyar and Wonogiri (Central Java) in west.
One of the most famous destination in Magetan is Sarangan Lake that located in the route of Magetan – Sarangan – Tawangmangu – Karanganyar. Geographically, Magetan is located in temperature around 16-22 ‘ C, and that makes this regency become chill and refreshing.
In addition to Telaga Sarangan, there are other destinations that also worth to be explored in Magetan:
Telaga SaranganSarangan is a hill station favored by the Dutch in colonial days. It is half way between Madiun and Solo. The village straddles the southern slope of Mount Lawu, an inactive volcano. At an altitude of 1,287 meters evenings are chilly. Sarangan Lake that also called Pasir Lake is stay at mount Lawu foot; it’s about 16km (west side) from Magetan city. The tourists can enjoy the nature scenery. The wide of Sarangan Lake is 30 Ha with its depth 28 meters, and its cold air with temperature 18-25 C. There are various facilities in this area, such as; hotel, restaurants, paddle canoe, playground and horses, which has supplied for the tourists from various region and even foreign tourist.
Sadon TempleSadon temple or Reog temple is located in Sadon hamlet, Cepoko village, Panekan sub-district, Magetan. The local inhabitants are familiar with Reog temple than Sadon temple. It precisely located on 3 km from Magetan city. This temple was a relic of Majapahit kingdom, that was Shiva Temple, but it is not known exactly when and on what purpose this temple was made. This temple was discovered by a Dutch researcher named Hupermand on 1866, in a state that was not perfect anymore. In 1969, with the supported by head office of Magetan cultural tourism at the time, this temple began to be considered.
Sarangan Eco Art VillageSarangan today is not only popular by the lake. Magetan now being developed for other ecotourism and edutainment. This tourism concept is rely on the nature that lies on the slopes of Mount Lawu, and it mixing up between tourism and education. This tourism site is a coorperation between LMDH (Institute for Rural Community and Forests) Center with Perhutani KPH Lawu Ds. The location is located in the area Mojosemi, or one kilometer of Sarangan.
Tirtosari WaterfallTirtosari Waterfall is located about 2,5 Km southwest side from Sarangan Lake, Magetan regemcy. At this Tirtosari Waterfall, the tourist can be enjoy beautiful natural water that flow from about 50 M height downward through a slot that flanked by precipitous stones. According to public belief if take shower to the Waterfall, we can be ageless and beautiful.
Wahyu LakeWahyu lake is located 3 km before Sarangan Lake in Magetan regency. It has 15 ha and having very cool climate. At Wahyu Lake, the visitors can relaxing their mind while fishing. Moreover, there is also camping ground and spring to take times and it beliefs that the spring can make people remain young. Sarangan and surroundings are good for hiking because it hasbeautiful scenery, friendly people and cool climate.
Ledug Suro"Ledug Suro" is one of the local cultures in Magetan that being held annually. This was done to celebrate the Islamic New Year or 1 Suro. Ledug which means mortar; a place for pounding rice, and it played with modern drum instruments as well as the collaboration of poetry in arrangement. This festival is mandatory for all people in Magetan. Each group of at least 10 people to 15 people has to perform something to give gratitude. Ledug Suro believes this will bring fortune and lives better in Magetan.
